This house was the home of William L. and Amanda Walker Hill. Later it was the home of their son, Horace William Hill and his wife, Mattie LaMaster Hill. Clarissa Holloway Hill, mother of William L. Hill, lived in this house and it is possible that this house was built by her when she moved here in the 1820s. All of Horace and Mattie’s children were born in this home. Horace William Hill was operated on in this house on the kitchen table after being kicked in the stomach by a horse. He died in this house a few days later in 1901. After the death of Horace William, Mattie remarried Mr. John Breckenridge Pyles. John and Mattie rented out the farm and made their home in LaGrange, Kentucky for a short time. They moved back to this house where their daughter, Martha Vaughn Pyles was born. About four years later Martha Irene Montfort, daughter of Ora Clyde Hill, was also born in this home. The house burned to the ground sometime prior to 1926. A smaller house similar to the house built by William Weldon Hill, was built on the same site. Mattie and John Pyles made this their home. Mattie and John’s daughter, Martha Vaughn Pyles and her husband, George Wills, lived in the second house and many of her children were born in it. It also burned to the ground. The house was located near the rear of the farm owned by William Weldon Hill in Henry County, Kentucky, on what used to be the Tipton farm near the Drane farm line. All of this property was part of the farm owned by William L. Hill which was approximately 400 acres in size.
